Frequently asked questions
The things bands and businesses ask us most. If your question isn't here, call 612-423-0969 — you'll get a producer, not a call center.
What is a video EPK, and why do I need one?
An EPK — Electronic Press Kit — is a short, professionally produced film of your live performance. It acts as a visual resume: it shows a buyer or booking agent your sound, style and stage presence in a single link.
Nothing makes a stronger impression than seeing and hearing a band play well. A great EPK helps you stand out and creates lasting opportunities.
What's included in the EPK package?
Our premium video EPK production package includes:
- A 3–5 minute EPK video
- Up to a 7-camera video shoot and edit
- Multi-track audio recording
- Professionally mixed and mastered audio
- Live performance footage capturing the excitement
- 10 YouTube Shorts and TikTok/Instagram videos
The social videos are included as a bonus — they're ideal for promoting shows and keeping your feeds active between gigs. See the full EPK page.
What does shoot day actually involve?
There are two ways we do it. We can capture 1–2 sets at a real gig — you play your show, we work around it, and you get the energy of a live crowd in the footage. Or we book a half-day closed session at a partner venue, where we control the room, the lighting and the number of takes.
Either way we handle load-in, camera placement and audio capture. Your job is to play; we take care of the rest.
Where do you shoot? Do I have to come to you?
Either works. We're based in Minneapolis and shoot nationwide, and our shooting expertise extends to virtually any location — your venue, a room you already play, or a closed session at one of our partner venues.
Whichever you choose, the goal is the same: showcase your band's energy and sound in a polished, professional video built for promotion and bookings.
Do you record the audio, or just the video?
Both. We capture multi-track audio at the shoot and then mix and master it professionally, so the finished film sounds like a record rather than a phone recording from the back of the room. Audio is half of what convinces a booker.
How long until we get the finished video?
Around 3–4 weeks from shoot day to delivered EPK. A multi-camera edit with multi-track audio that's properly mixed and mastered takes time to do right, and we'd rather do it right than fast.
If you're working to a booking deadline, a tour announcement or a release date, tell us up front and we'll plan the shoot date around it.
Can we use the video wherever we want?
Yes — the finished video is yours to use. Send it to your booking agent, post it on your socials, attach it to press and promoter submissions. That is exactly what it's built for, and handing it straight to an agent to book gigs is what most bands do with theirs.
A440 Studios retains the copyright in the production itself, which lets us show the work as part of our own portfolio. If you have a use in mind beyond promotion and booking — a commercial release, for instance — just ask and we'll sort it out with you.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the venue, the number of cameras and the scope of the shoot, so we quote each project individually rather than posting a flat rate that would be wrong for most bands.
Tell us what you're planning and we'll come back with a quote within 24 hours. Get a quote.
Do you do live streaming?
Yes. Alongside recorded work we can broadcast a performance live — it's where the "Broadcast" in Capture. Broadcast. Magnify. comes from, and it's what our A440 LIVE TV channel is for.
What's possible depends on the venue and its internet connection, so get in touch with the date and the room and we'll talk through the options.
Do you only work with musicians?
No. Alongside music work we offer full-service commercial video production for businesses, venues and institutions — the same production values applied to your brand.
Commercial clients have included Fallon Minneapolis, Meet Minneapolis, H&R Block, Schuler Shoes, the Fitzgerald Theater and Burkle Honda. See the full list.
Can you transfer old tapes, film or audio?
Yes — professional media digitization and restoration to preserve legacy formats before they degrade any further. That work is handled by our sister operation, Family Media Transfer.
Who will I actually be working with?
Every project comes with a personal producer. No call centers, no handoffs between departments — just responsive, expert guidance from the first call through to final delivery.
How long have you been doing this?
A440 Studios has been a trusted name in the Minneapolis music and media production scene since 1996 — over 30 years, from producing records in the early days to video production and media restoration now.
We've worked with hundreds of local and regional bands as well as nationally renowned artists including Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt and Zakk Wylde. See the client list.
How do I get started?
Send us a note with what you're shooting, roughly when, and where — or just call. We reply within 24 hours.
